Volunteer FAQs

It’s easy! Just request an application! Either request an application by completing the form below, call us at 480.588.8200, or pick one up in person!

We do not reimburse mileage, but we do our best to find volunteers who live in the same vicinity as the patient to whom they are assigned.

The schedule is decided upon by the volunteer and the patient/caregiver/family. There is no minimum number of hours, but we do ask that our volunteers be willing to donate a minimum of 1 or 2 hours per week. There may be times when you won’t have a patient, but we request that you will commit to donating this time when we need a volunteer in your area.

Just your time. All costs involved in the application process are paid by Arizona Care Hospice. A TB test, background check, and comprehensive training will be provided.

You do not need medical experience and we will provide the training necessary to volunteer. The orientation can be held at our office in Fountain Hills or we will be happy to meet with you at a convenient location of your choosing. Volunteers will not feed, transfer, transport, administer medications, assist with personal care or provide counseling to patients.

The two most important characteristics of our volunteers are compassion and a desire to help. Whether our volunteers are playing board games with a patient or offering respite for the caregiver, our volunteers will be using skills that they already possess. Volunteer activities can include companionship, emotional support, reading to the patient, playing music, or assisting with light housekeeping chores. We believe that hospice is not a place. Hospice is a philosophy; one that centers on the belief that every individual has the right to die comfortably and with dignity. Volunteers play a large part in making that happen.
